"I seldom use any other study aids besides the Scriptures and some good translation in other languages: My chief help is prayer ... and meditation."
-- George Muller, in "The Autobiography of George Muller" "I was growing in the faith and knowledge of Jesus, but I still preferred reading religious books instead of Scriptures. I read tracts, missionary newsletters, sermons, and biographies of christian people. God is the author of the Bible, and only the truth it contains will lead people to true happiness."
-- George Muller, in "The Autobiography of George Muller" I delight in reading and learning from books. I delight in reading and learning from Christian books even more. Hence, when I go into a book-store, I do one grand important thing, I ask the Holy Spirit to guide me to pick-out the books that I need.
Yes, there are many books of which I desire to acquire. However, after I have bought them, the books that I need are the ones that I will come to read. The remaining books will take-up space on a shelf and eventually donated or resold. Nonetheless, I must always be conscious of not allowing any of these books to take me astray from both reading and embracing the words of the Bible ... for it is the source of life for both my soul and the other Christian writers as well. --- R. A. Gomez --- "It is impossible to read too much, but always keep before you why you read. Remember that 'the need to receive, recognize and rely on the Holy Spirit' is before all else."
--- Oswald Chambers --- "We must attack the enemy's line of communication. What we want is not more little books about Christianity, but more little books by Christians on other subjects -- with their Christianity latent."
--- C. S. Lewis --- (latent = concealed; dormant) |
