In this world, the identity of a person is something that helps define them. Some people identity themselves by the position they hold within their family, close friends, and what they do at work. However, these and many other forms of identity can change or be taken away over the course of a lifetime. Experiencing such a lose can injury or even destroy the regard one holds towards themselves. However, there is an identity that can remain within us for a lifetime; it can be found within Christ Jesus.
Everywhere I go, people are dressed in a certain manner. Some people are dressed in a work uniform, such as those of fast-food places. Other people are dressed with crisp shirts and ties, like a bank or office. Yet others, are dressed with relaxed jeans and a t-shirt. Yet no matter how well or poorly a person may be dressed, there is something unique and distinct about them. That "something" lies within their heart.
How do we measure who we are as a person? How do we measure the change from whom we were in the past? These two questions lead me to an old Proverb: "Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.", Proverbs 4:3. It is at the root of the heart where we can find the answer to these two questions.
