Lent - Part 6

3/29/2020

Reflection on the Practice of Lent
For several weeks I have been examining the religious custom of Lent with a comparison to God's Word.  What begun as a brief discussion and discourse with a friend about Ash Wednesday, quickly grew into making several parts to the observance of Lent. It is a journey that has both challenged and taken me through many hours per workday of the project. The journey has taken me through peer-reviewed reference works as well as both articles and comments by people with a theological background. Yet, above it all, it has been the leading of the Holy Spirit, through the scriptures, that has taken me from one end of the Bible to the other. The journey has assured me that there is no need for the religious custom of Lent. God has already instituted the spring feasts: Passover, Unleavened Bread, the Early First Fruits; they all are in line with Jesus fulfilling the role of the Lamb of God for the redemption of sins for all mankind. People need to be celebrating these, with the observance of Jesus in them.

Lent - Part 5

3/25/2020

Lent is a season based on a religious custom that is often observed by practitioners of the Catholic Church. Its intention is for practitioners to draw closer to God, primarily through fasting and abstinence of red meat. Ironically, many of them choose to focus on the sacrifice that Jesus made with His body and life unto death by crucifixion. Instead, they should focus on life which was exhibited by Jesus on the Day of Resurrection. In this part, we will discuss the resurrection of Jesus and the role of the believer unto salvation.

Lent - Part 4

During the season of Lent, many practitioners of the Catholic faith fast on "Good Friday". Now Good Friday is supposed to be a day of remembrance of the physical suffering that was endured by Jesus as He was escorted up to His death by crucifixion. In this part, we will examine the Lord's Supper and Two Convents in relation to life.

Lent - Part 3

Lent is a religious custom in which some practitioners fast or abstain from eating red meat for a period of time. This practice is common among many practitioners of the Catholic Church.  However, many practitioners who fast, neglect to pair it with the practice of praying; which is a dominant Biblical practice. In this part, I will address the subject of fasting and praying.

Lent - Part 2

Lent is a religious custom in which many practitioners fast and abstain from certain foods; specifically meat. They do so on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and every Friday within the Lent period. The traditional substitution for those days has become the fish. In this part, I will address the subject of red meat, fish, and the correlation of blood with life and Jesus.

Lent is a religious custom found within Christianity as being practiced primarily by people of the Catholic faith. It typically consists of a period of 40 days (depending on the year) that come before the commemoration day of the resurrection of Jesus. In this part I will address the subject of Ash Wednesday and the Biblical use of Ashes and Sackcloth as an expression of repentance.

Lent Season

2/23/2020

Lent season will soon begin. Its practice will be observed within Christianity, most dominantly by people from the Catholic Church. I have grown up in both a part of the country and state where Catholicism is dominant among many people of faith. However, throughout my many years of observing them, I have encountered many individuals who practiced Lent without any knowledge of its attributes' connection with God's Word. At the personal level, I have worked with them, by guiding them through the scriptures, and bringing a form of clarification to many of their questions and confusions on the subject matter.

This year, through a discussion and discourse with a friend, I have decided to write a short series that addresses several attributes that pertain to Lent and compare them with what is said in God's Word.  Although the research has been performed in-depth, it is presented in manner that is concise and with scripture references  in order to present the main points of the subject matter at hand. It is my hope that this work will help people see the truth that lies in God's Word, and draw them closer to obtaining or maintaining a healthy relationship with Jesus.

Thank you

Forty Days of Lent

3/10/2019

A branch of Christianity promotes and observes a time of "lent". It is a forty-day process that is exercised by certain believers in preparation for Easter Sunday as well as both the restoration of one's spirit and faith with Christ Jesus.  The process consists of forty days and nights (except Sundays) in which an abstinence-sacrifice is made from something one may eat, drink, and/or do. Furthermore, it is believed that the sacrifice made during this time period fulfills a penance regarding one's repentance of identified sins.  Although this practice has been around for many years, many believers within Christianity still do not practice it.
