COVID-19: Why God Allows It

COVID-19 (CV) continues to take its toll across the world. Many lives have been affected by the CV and the end of its run has not been determined with certainty. In addition, it has been discovered that there are now three known strains of the virus that are found throughout the world; the reason or limits of its mutations are unknown. Yet the question that has arisen above all is "Why has God allowed this to happen?" Based on the evidence that is presented in God's Word and how the virus is affecting the world, I have deduced five reasons.

1.) God is preparing the world for something new that is coming up on His agenda.  Hence, He needs to prepare His field, the world, to plant some new seeds.  Preparation entails gathering the crops that are ready for harvest and make room for the new seeds.  It also means removing weeds, rocks, and stones as well as working the soil so that the seeds may grow without anything that will restrict their growth. In regards, to people, God is gathering souls of believers who abide in Jesus that are ready to go home with Him. He is also taking the souls of unbelievers whom He presented multiple opportunities to accept Jesus as their Savior and Lord; yet refused to do so. God needs to prepare the world for the crop of believers to be harvested and He has chosen the CV as a means to do so.

2.) God is working through a sifting process of separating weeds from crops for the gathering of His harvest. For believers that abide in Jesus, some will go off into eternal life. Yet others will be destined for immunity of the CV because God still has a purpose for them with regards to His will for this world.  On the other hand, God also sees the condition of this world and the sin the prevails within it. Hence, He is administering a balance by removing non-believers, who have chosen to reject Jesus as their Savior and Lord. God loves His creation and is exceedingly patient with it. However, He is also just and will exercise appropriate judgment in its due time.

3.) God is calling out to both believers and non-believers of Jesus.  He is striving to gather their attention and lead them into a righteous relationship with Him. In essence, God is calling out to people to seek Him; allow the Holy Spirit to bring sin into the light of Jesus, and have people repent of their sins as well as receive forgiveness from Jesus.  In addition, God also desires for people to examine their relationships with other people and see if they need to forgive them for acts of sins that were committed against them. It is not easy work, but with the Holy Spirit as our Helper, restoration towards wholeness of holiness through Jesus is possible.

4.) God is putting believers through a test. He is testing them in all areas of life. For instance, trusting Him to remain faithful, with endurance, and working perseverance in the midst of the storm. Other areas are in trusting God for supplying all provisions of the essentials such as food, water, shelter, and financial income. Yet other areas are in regards to expressing His love towards others, even unbelievers. There are some people who have limitations within their lives that restrict them from going out into society to gather resources to survive. However, people with a higher tolerance or immunity to the CV, should make themselves available to them; starting with the immediate household, family, close friends, and then the rest of the world. I am happy to report, that there are people who are already at work in this area, but more laborers are needed.        

5.) God has given Satan permission to use the CV throughout the world. To some people, this may sound outlandish and extreme as a reason for the CV.  However, throughout the history of this world, God has allowed Satan to do many thing within it; even to the point that people perceived God's presence to be absent from the face of the Earth.  Yet, as much damage as Satan has been allowed to do with the CV, he has been restricted by God. For instance, Satan has been restricted from hindering the expression of God's love through His creation. Throughout this time, the love of God has arisen through many believers and extended itself towards others. One of the most prevalent things is believers arising to help the elderly and the needy. In addition, believers have also made much-needed protective gear for both healthcare workers and civilians. Furthermore, different businesses have extended themselves to front-line workers such as those in the fields of healthcare, services, and sales. Although there are non-believers also offering their help, its the help that comes from believers who abide in Jesus that is of greater positive effect.

In closing, this is the scope of my perception. I don't know with certainty if any of one or combination of reasons which I have presented is true. Yet what I am assured of is that believers who abide in Jesus are heaven-bound and destined for eternal life.  Although their presence on this earth is missed, we can rejoice that if we remain in Jesus, we too will be with them someday; forever. So now is the time to get right with Jesus. If you have been outside of Him or lukewarm, then now is the time to choose eternal life with Jesus.

Let Us Pray. God, I don't know with certainty how things will continue to be throughout the course of COVID-19. However, I do know that I want to be in right standing with You. So please help me search my heart and confess my sins; that I may repent, receive forgiveness and be restored back to You with wholeness. In Jesus' name  I pray, Amen.
