From time to time, I have issues or concerns about my life. Sometimes I share them with God, as well as others. In the process, God will come to speak to me by various means, in this case a dream, His Spirit, and His Word. Throughout Christ Jesus' time of ministry, He healed many people by different means, especially by a physical touch. However, the scriptures show us an exemption in Matthew 8: 5-13. Here, we have the case of a centurion, where a spoken word by Jesus brought on healing to the centurion’s servant. Yet, it was not the chosen words that were uttered by the mouth of Jesus, but instead, the authority that went out with those words, that made the difference. Let’s learn more about this case.
When Jesus had entered the town of Capernaum, a centurion of the Roman army had both sought and approached Him. The centurion told Jesus about one of his servants and how their present sickness with palsy had caused them to suffer torment. So Jesus told the centurion that He would go to his home and heal his servant. However, the centurion stopped Jesus from doing so. The centurion acknowledged his own unworthiness to have Jesus, a man of Godly authority, go into his home. Nonetheless, if Jesus were to but speak the word (with His authority), he believed that his servant would be healed. Jesus marveled at the great faith of this centurion, and used it as an example for the many people that surrounded them at that time. Furthermore, because of this great faith, Jesus told the centurion to go on home, for as he had believed, so had it been done. The centurion’s servant had been healed at that very time that the word had been spoken. Now a days, there are many believers of Christ Jesus that limit His healing power to a physical touch. Some people will cry out for people that hold gifts of faith and healing; that they may be healed by their physical touch. While other people will persistently search for a special annotating oil that has been prayed over by a called-out person of God. Although there are scriptures that support the notion of people being equipped with the gifts of healing as well as instructions over anointing people with oil before being prayed over by a “righteous [person] of God”, (James 5:14-16), the receiving of healing was never meant to be limited to these means. I earnestly believe that Christ Jesus is not only the Savior from the bonds of sin, but also the Healer, the Great Physician for all sickness and disease. For it is written in the scriptures, ““by His stripes we are healed."”, (Isaiah 53: 5). He just asks us to believe in Him. Let Us Pray. Jesus, thank You for not limiting Your power of healing to the time by which You walked the face of the earth, nor a physical touch. Instead, You have extended Your power of healing through out many years and for all believers up to this present day; for this I am forever grateful. Jesus, please encourage my faith so that I too may believe as the centurion, that when You “"speak the word"”, there shall be healing! May it all be done according to the scriptures, Your healing power, and God’s will. Amen. Comments are closed.
